Baptism

Through the sacrament of Baptism we die to self in order that we may live for Christ. By being baptised, we become members of God’s family and receive the grace necessary to strengthen and sustain us in better following Christ in our lives.

For infants and children, the choice to be baptised is taken by their parents who, in choosing to have their children baptised make a commitment to bring their children up in the faith – through their own lived faith witness at home, and through their participation in their local parish, particularly through attending Sunday Mass.

As their children grow older, they will go on to make the sacrament of Reconciliation, through which they learn to say sorry to God and to ask for his mercy and forgiveness, this is normally done in primary 3. They will then go on to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist, through which they receive Christ, truly present, body and blood, soul and divinity, and all of the graces he offers us therein, and the sacrament of Confirmation through which they become full members of Christ’s family.

If you would like to have your child baptised, please speak to one of the priests after Mass. If you are an adult looking to enter the Church, prior to being baptised you will need to complete the RCIA program – more information on it can be found here.
