When we gather to celebrate Mass we continue the celebration of the Last Supper, gathering around the altar of the Lord as his disciples. When we do so, through the prayers of the Priest acting In Persona Christi the bread and wine offered along with the prayers of the people become the body and blood of Christ. Christ becomes truly present to us in the Eucharist and we are then able to receive him in the Eucharist.
To assist with the distribution of the Eucharist we rely on the assistance of lay ministers from the congregation. These ministers are often also involved with home visits. If you would like to volunteer to assist as an Extraordinary Minister in the Church, please speak to your Parish Priest or your Parish co-ordinator.
